Com-mu-ni-ty : A group of people living in the same locality and under the same government

Welcome to Oakworth.org.uk.

When I originally set up Oakworth.org.uk, it was mainly to showcase my photographs and presentations about the village that I have lived in for nigh on 27 years and which surprisingly enough, is called Oakworth.

In case you don’t know (and then again why should you), Oakworth is a medium sized village located in the southern Pennines of West Yorkshire. Its nearest neighbours are Haworth – famous for the Bronte sisters and Wuthering Heights, Keighley and Skipton - the gateway to the Yorkshire Dales.

Of course Oakworth itself is famous. That most marvellous of films, The Railway Children, was filmed in and around the village and because it brought recognition to the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway, Oakworth Station further benefited afterwards by being used in many television and cinema productions. Needless to say us Oakworth folks have not let this fame go to our heads and, unlike our sister village of Haworth, we have not embraced the tourist trade and consequently our village receives a surprisingly small amount of visitors.

However, I digress! After running the original site for just under a year, I redesigned everything and broadened the site’s scope; including a blog, forum and a few other bells and whistles. Whilst the second version was quite successful, it did not live up to my expectations with regards to getting much involvement from visitors and the community. Perhaps I was partly to blame for this through my inability to update the site on a regular basis! So after much soul searching I have decided to pare down things and revert to a simpler format.

The site will remain devoted to Oakworth (although I’m still going to share my photos of other favourite places) and will remain non commercial.

I hope you enjoy your visit and as always, feel free to email me any time.

See you around and about.
